It's pricy, but so are lenses for that medium format camera. It has excellent factory calibration, so she would be closer to a "what the screen shows is what the printed photo will look like" workflow. I would lean towards the Studio Display being a great choice for thinking-about-pro photography.

I haven't printed at home in a long time, but my understanding is that macOS offers a "print over network" kind of functionality that might stand in if you have driver issues, or as you've noted simply move files to the old machine for the print task (which can be trivially done a handful of ways).

The sticker shock is making me hesitate, especially WRT the Studio Display. And 2) should I splurge for the Studio Display it seems expensive for what it is. I suppose the worst case scenario would be for her to set up the old iMac as a printer diver to which she transfers files that are ready to print, but that would be kludgy.

The questions I'm pondering are: 1) Are there likely to be software issues? I know Affinity is AS native, but Canon supplies horrible software with it's printers, and I wouldn't be too surprised if their drivers aren't AS native or even functional on the Mac Studio.

You do not have to update to v 4.2, but I recommend it. Note that there may be a few initial bugs that are already ticketed for more minor updates coming soon. Download the “Current Version” update directly from the Silhouette Software page (especially important for MAC users).ģ. In v 3, create a library export with File > Library > Export Library.Ģ. (Name it Cloud Library with the date when prompted to save.) Repeat with the cloud by right clicking on your email address and choosing Export ‘’.(Name it Local Library with the date when prompted to save.) Right click on Local User and choose Export ‘Local User’.


If you export your Library before updating, then any problematic Library issues you may encounter with the update to v 4.2 may be resolved with your exported Library. Export your Library before updating, as the Library has been quite extensively overhauled to give a better experience.
